Sava Sara Brakada, AKA Xsara was born on 06-27-2004. She was raised in Kennel Brakada spending the first two months of her life on beautiful countryside Gorenjska (Slovenia) with her siblings and parents. As soon as she came to Ljubljana we started a puppy class, followed by an obedience class. She passed her B-bh exam with 96 points (instructor Agility EO winner Polona Bonač). We now continue with Rally-Obedience under Polona's supervision. Our biggest passion however is Agility. We started our first Agility class in October 2005 (club Agility Ilirija, instructor Silvia Trkman, two times agility world champion). When Silvia stopped teaching agility classes, we switched to Daša Zakotnik. We regularly participate in Agility trials in Slovenia and sometimes abroad. Xsara also loves to learn new dog tricks, you can see some of them in our videos. Her other passions include long walks, big meals and playing with dogs, specially her pyr shep sister Tani, her crazy agility pals and her sister Sena.

Recall

Xsara really amazed me today so I want to post this on her blog. We were on our morning walk, as suddenly a rabbit crossed our path. Tani barked a couple of times, but wasn't really interested in the animal, while Xsara has a very strong hunting instinct, specially for rabbits! She was out of my reach so the only thing I could do was to use my voice. I yelled "freeze" and she actually listened :) She stopped, waited for me to come to her, still looking at the bunny who was running away in panic, but didn't move a bit! I was really impressed, Xsara has a good recall for a hound, but anybody who has experience with beagles will know that they forget about everything else once they find a trail, it's like some sort of trance. And if they can see their prey and not only smell it, it's even more difficult. Since I had a full pocket of treats she got a BIG reward, but had to continue the walk on leash, to be really sure. Anyway, I am incredibly proud of her today, she really is one special little girl!!!!

Hurray for Xsara! Great story and good reminder about the importance of a strong recall for any dog. We are working on an emergency whistle recall for me and mom hopes it will really work!

My mam says she is really impressed! She says she knows exactly what I would have done in the same situation - sometimes I think she judges me too harshly (but in truth I would have chased the rabbit!) Well done Xsara x

Khongrats to Xsara!

Sadly, no amount of treats and/or freeze would work fur me!

Yep, I know *exactly* what you mean about the trance thing. My scenthound mix Lucy is the same way. When she finds a scent and doesn't come when I call, it's not that she's being disobedient, because I really believe she does not hear me at all -- she's off in another world.

You must have been sooooooo proud of Xsara for the amazing recall she did! Truly impressive for any dog, but a hound? WOW! :-)

Amazing Xsara! We once went hiking in the hills with Kess. Towards the end of the walk we let her off-leash, figured that she was tired and less prone to follow a scent. To cut a long story short, we had to chase after her once she went on hunting mode. So, it's amazing that Xsara overcame her natural instict to hunt!

Hey friends! I am so sorry for neglecting you guys for more than 1 year. I feel so bad. But no worries, I am now back & will promise to visit you all as often as I can.

Wow Xsara. That is really good. You have a very reliable recall. Sometimes I stop on my tracks when my Mommy tells me to but sometimes I am so focused on chasing whatever I'm chasing, I totally ignore her eventhough she is screaming at the top of her lungs!

Love licks & Hugs,
